Quick, Professional Feedback on Your Interior Design and Renovation Plans

What can we accomplish together, virtually? Here are some big topics I can easily help with, despite the limitations of meeting online:

  • Figuring out / creating your unique aesthetic
  • Ensuring functional design—layout, material selections, and other features
  • Budgeting and getting the most out of your money
  • Assistance with colour choices and undertones
  • Pointers on project management, permits, insurance, renovation steps, and hiring help
  • Tips for the finishing touches—decor, accents, vignettes, etc
  • Putting it all together into a cohesive design—paint, tiles, countertops, flooring, furniture, lighting, hardware, appliances, window coverings, etc.

A Look and Feel That Lasts

Timeless design is all about enduring style—choices that look just as good in five, and even ten years from now, as they do today. When done well, timeless design makes it hard to tell when a space was created—and that’s the beauty of it. It stays looking fresh and relevant for years, while also adding long-term value and minimizing the need for expensive updates later on.

True Colour Expert™: Crafting Harmonious Spaces

With so many colour options and subtle undertones, it’s easy to second-guess your decisions or wonder why something feels “off.” Neutrals aren’t foolproof. Whites are rarely treated with the respect they deserve. And sometimes, the real issue in a space isn’t furniture or lighting—it’s colour. As a certified True Colour Expert™, I help you cut through the confusion and zero in on a palette that works beautifully together. The result? A home that feels calm, cohesive, and completely you.

Your Personal Sounding Board

Embarking on a remodeling project can be daunting, and questions are bound to arise. Think of me as your personal sounding board with concrete answers to your design and project coordination queries. I’m here to offer clarity and direction, ensuring that your vision for your home becomes a reality.

It’s also completely normal for couples to have different ideas when it comes to design. In these cases, my role is to listen carefully to both perspectives, find common ground, and guide you toward decisions that feel balanced and aligned with your shared goals. With open conversation and a bit of expert perspective, we can turn differing opinions into a cohesive vision you’ll both feel good about.

I understand that budget is also a significant consideration. During our consultation, I’ll work closely with you to align your vision with your budget. I have extensive experience in finding cost-effective solutions without compromising on quality.

Praise from past clients

I did a virtual design consultation with Charlene since we live in different cities. It was just as in-depth and informative as a face-to-face meeting would have been. I was able to show her the features of my condo on the camera and together we thoroughly went through various colour choices. I am very happy with the final decision and can’t wait to see the finished project! I would highly recommend Charlene as a designer, either in-person or virtually. 10/10!

What do I need to have prepared?

To ensure we make the most of our time together, I’ll ask you to have the following items for our meeting:

  1. Sample Materials: Any materials you’ve been considering for the project. This could include paint swatches, fabric samples, flooring or tile options, or any other relevant materials that have caught your eye. We will be using them to determine what is working and where we need to tweak or pivot.
  2. Large Piece of White Bristol Board: Having a large piece of white bristol board on hand is the key to figuring out the “why”. Why and how the elements either do work together or they don’t. It allows us to have an interactive and visual exploration of potential design elements. It’s a lot of fun!
  3. Decision-Makers: If there are other individuals involved in the decision-making process for the project, please invite them to join our virtual consultation. Their input and preferences are valuable in creating a design that aligns with everyone’s vision.

I’ll also be sending you a short questionnaire to complete in advance of our meeting so I know what you want to accomplish together and be prepared!

What if my partner and I are having a hard time agreeing?

Navigating differing opinions is a very common aspect of the design process, and I’m here to facilitate a collaborative and harmonious resolution. If you and your partner find yourselves with differing views, this is how I like to approach it:

  1. Open Communication: To understand each person’s preferences, priorities, and concerns, I’ll ask each of you to fill me in on what your thoughts and ideas are for the space. This dialogue helps uncover common ground and areas where compromises can be made.
  2. Compromise: As a neutral third party, I will work to find compromises that satisfy both parties. We’ll explore design options that incorporate elements important to each of you, creating a balanced and cohesive vision for the space.
  3. Prioritizing Design Goals: We’ll identify the core design goals and priorities for the project. By understanding what aspects are non-negotiable and what can be adjusted, we can find solutions that align with both of your overarching visions.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a space that reflects the collective vision and preferences of both you and your partner. I’m here to facilitate a positive and collaborative design experience, ensuring that the outcome is something you both love.

And as a little side note, you both may not be aware of it, but ultimately your house is the boss of the final decisions. I can explain when we chat 😉.

Do you have a signature style?

I get asked this a lot. But what’s most important is that we come up with a plan that reflects YOUR style and feels welcoming.

But if you must know, at the heart of my design philosophy is a relaxed, eclectic style that exudes an inviting comfort. I thrive on creating spaces that feel effortlessly curated, where a mix of diverse elements come together to form a harmonious and comfortable environment. I love blending textures, incorporating unique pieces, and playing with colour.

How is it possible to help with colour choices virtually?

Navigating colour choices virtually is a seamless and collaborative process. Here’s how it works:

  1. Virtual Colour Analysis: We discuss your preferences and the mood you want to achieve. You take me on a virtual walkthrough of your space.
  2. Samples and Swatches: If you have physical samples or materials you’re considering, you share them during our virtual consultation. I’ll offer insights on how these elements integrate with different colour options, and undertones.
  3. White Bristol Board Exercise: Utilizing the large piece of white bristol board, we experiment with colour combinations. This interactive approach allows us to visualize how different colours work together and helps in making informed decisions.

Your active involvement and feedback during the consultation ensure that the final colour choices work together and resonate with your style preferences.

We don't have any idea what to do. Can you give us ideas?

Of course! I thrive on helping clients like you who are open to exploring possibilities and seeking inspiration. If you don’t have a specific vision in mind, our collaboration can begin with a creative exploration to discover what resonates with you. Here’s what we would do:

  1. Discovery Session: We’ll start with a quick chat about your lifestyle, preferences, and any things that aren’t working for you in your space. This information will serve as the foundation for generating ideas that align with your unique needs.
  2. Exploration of Styles: We then discuss your likes and dislikes. We’ll narrow down options and identify elements that resonate with you. This will give you an idea of your style.
  3. Recommendations: I’ll provide recommendations on how to transform your space. This may include suggestions on possible renovations, colour choices, lighting, or some simple furniture placement.
  4. Mood Boards: Then, if we still have some remaining time together, we will set up a Pinterest Board that showcases a variety of design concepts, colour palettes, and style elements we’ve discussed. These boards provide you with a visual representation of where you want to take your project. If we are out of time I will send a link on how to set this up for yourself.

The design process is a collaborative journey, and your input is crucial. I’m here to turn your blank canvas or your existing space into a home that resonates with you, one that brings you joy and comfort.

Do you offer in-person design consultations?

Absolutely! I do offer in-person consultations for clients located in Metro Vancouver. The fee for in-person consultation is $425, and if the travel distance exceeds 30 km, an additional charge of 50¢ per kilometre will apply.
